Job Title: Data Engineer
Location: Remote, work from home in the US or UK only
Position Type: Full-time (40 hours)

What’s the Job?

Uplift Games, the innovative studio behind the record-breaking game Adopt Me on the Roblox platform (35+ billion visits, 1.92 million record CCU), is seeking a skilled and motivated Data Engineer to join our dynamic team.

It is essential that you value diversity and want to work alongside talented people from marginalized groups. We are explicitly a trans, LGBTQIA+, BIPOC / BAME, and disability-positive team, and you will be an active supporter of all team members.

This is a remote position open to candidates who are based in the US or UK and can demonstrate eligibility to work in those countries.

What You'll Be Doing

As a key member of our engineering team, you will be our sole in-house data engineer who architects and maintains all of our data infrastructure, and builds pipelines in collaboration with our senior data analyst and engineering team. Your role will involve collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, including game designers, developers, artists and product owners, to ensure the robustness and scalability of our data infrastructure.

Your expertise in managing data pipelines will be pivotal in driving our analytics capabilities, providing invaluable insights into player behavior and game performance. Additionally, experience in data analysis will be a great help to support our existing data team.

Your Background

These are the things candidates really should have but can make up for in other areas. If you’re missing one or two, consider applying anyway, especially if you belong to a marginalized group.

  • Experience in designing and engineering large-scale data systems, with at least three years working with large-scale game data.
  • Familiarity with containerization and service orchestration, including Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Proficiency in data engineering tools such as ElasticSearch, and Big Query on Google Cloud Platform.
  • Familiarity with open-source data visualization tools, particularly Kibana and/or Grafana
  • Experience in data analysis and visualization, especially SQL.
  • Strong work ethic and curiosity for new technologies. You take initiative and thrive, even with minimal guidance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Passion for game development and a desire to make a significant impact on millions of players.
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion, actively supporting team members from marginalized groups. We are explicitly a trans, LGBTQ+, BIPOC / BAME and disability positive team.

Bonus Points

These are things that can improve your candidacy, but none of these are necessary to apply.

  • Experience with R (or, to a lesser degree, Python)
  • Contributions to open-source data projects.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in additional programming languages such as JavaScript, Rust, or Python.
  • Understanding of the Roblox community and player motivations.
  • Experience with self-managed roles and remote teams.

Request Supplementary Documents

  • A copy of your CV / Resume
  • Optional Cover Letter: Briefly explain why you want to work at Uplift Games
  • Optional Portfolio: Share links to past work showcasing your technical and creative skills.
  • Optional Code Samples: One or more samples of your code, preferably available on platforms like Github.
