Job Title: HR Manager (US)
Location: Remote, work from home in the US only
Position Type: Full-time (40 hours)

What’s the Job?

We are looking for an experienced HR Manager to support our US employees, ensuring they have a great employee experience as part of our remote-first studio.

You will be responsible for all aspects of HR management in the US including onboarding, compensation / benefits administration, compliance, employee relations and learning & development. You will also support recruitment. This is a standalone role, working closely with our UK Head of HR.

You will be an ambassador for our company, so it’s essential that you are passionate about our culture, as well as our game and community.

This is a remote position open to candidates from the US only. If you are not in the US, your application will be rejected. Due to the need to collaborate with colleagues based in the UK, preference will be given to candidates based in the Eastern time zone.

It is essential that you value diversity and want to work alongside talented people from marginalized groups. We are explicitly a trans, LGBTQIA+, BIPOC / BAME, and disability-positive team, and you will be an active supporter of all team members.

This is a remote position open to candidates who are based in the US and can demonstrate eligibility to work in their country.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Responsible for all aspects of the employee lifecycle and day-to-day HR administrative operations
  • Ensure that our HR practices are always compliant in the states where we employ people
  • Contribute to our HR strategy as we build out our people offering
  • Support Talent Acquisition as required, for example in writing job descriptions, scoping roles, sourcing candidates, reviewing applications, arranging interviews and managing feedback through to making offers
  • Conduct salary surveys within our market to advise on appropriate and competitive salary levels, and manage the compensation review process
  • Manage the employee onboarding process, ensuring that new team members are seamlessly introduced to the studio and enrolled in payroll, benefits etc
  • Administer our benefits and leaves of absence
  • Manage workers compensation insurance benefits
  • Advise and support our managers in dealing with employee relations issues and reviews
  • Partner with our managers to build plans, projects, training, etc., as needed to support development opportunities
  • Work closely with our UK Head of HR to ensure global consistency
  • Develop and maintain our handbook and policies
  • Embrace and promote our culture
  • Advise on diversity, equity and inclusion, ensuring that all our policies and practices are supportive of, and accessible to, all employees

Your Background

These are the things candidates really should have but can make up for in other areas. If you’re missing one or two, consider applying anyway, especially if you belong to a marginalized group.

  • BS degree in Human Resources or connected field
  • Experience working in an HR function in a scaling business, and able to draw on your experience of best practice to problem solve
  • Video game studio experience would be ideal, but a background in tech or creative industries is also relevant
  • An understanding of the factors that influence workplace culture
  • Equally happy operating at the macro level (e.g. strategy) and the micro (e.g. administration)
  • Able to advise leadership on all aspects of HR
  • Strong understanding of compliance, including federal and multi-state employment laws and regulations
  • Familiar with California employment laws and practices
  • Experience in sourcing and hiring candidates at all levels
  • A good understanding of recruitment best practices, coupled with a desire to continually improve
  • Experience in benefits and leaves administration
  • Customer service driven, and able to build strong relationships both internally and externally
  • A confident communicator both verbally and in writing, able to use your excellent interpersonal skills to influence and challenge as required
  • Proactive, positive mindset, always on the lookout for creative new ways to do things
  • Passionate about workplace culture, and a champion for employee and candidate experience
  • A committed advocate for inclusion and for marginalized groups
  • Extremely organised and able to manage competing priorities, with great attention to detail
  • Comfortable working in a fully remote role and across multiple time zones

Bonus Points

These are things that can improve your candidacy, but none of these are necessary to apply.

  • Familiarity with Gusto, Slack, Discord, Homerun
