Job Title: Internal Counsel
Location: Remote, work from home in the US or UK only
Position Type: Full-time (40 hours)

What’s the Job?

Uplift Games is the studio behind Adopt Me, the #1 game on the Roblox platform (31+ billion visits, 1.92 million record CCU) all about adopting cute pets. We are a small team with a huge community, so to push the limits of scale and quality, we are building out our in-house legal team.

You will be our first in-house legal hire and you will be responsible for overseeing all legal aspects of our business and formalizing Legal as a discipline and department. You will collaborate with key members of our team to provide legal solutions which inform how we fulfill our mission of “Creating Future Nostalgia” for our millions of players.

You will safeguard our reputation by championing that the company strictly follows law guidelines and give legal advice to management about all relevant issues. You’ll offer strong initiative and sound judgment, with the ability to work independently in a creative and disruptive industry while effectively ensuring legal conformity and minimizing probability of exposure. Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with a broad range of individuals and groups in a cross-functional context are a must.

It is essential that you value diversity and want to work alongside talented people from marginalized groups. We are explicitly a trans, LGBTQIA+, BIPOC / BAME, and disability-positive team, and you will be an active supporter of all team members.

This is a remote position open to candidates who are based in the US or UK and can demonstrate eligibility to work in those countries.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Support and advise Uplift Games in connection with corporate governance and general transactional work
  • Handle, either independently or in connection with external counsel, the structuring, due diligence, negotiation and implementation of strategic partnerships
  • Oversee the legal function of Uplift Games’ US and UK subsidiaries, including acting as the first line of support and escalating to specialist attorneys (e.g., litigation, employment, privacy) as needed
  • Manage the full life-cycle of entity management for Uplift Games, including ensuring compliance with applicable corporate formalities, corporate governance and other local legal requirements
  • Work with our in-house team to draft and negotiate commercial contracts and provide legal support to other Uplift Games teams including Consumer Product and Multimedia
  • Direct and coordinate compliance with applicable data protection and advertising regulations
  • Develop strategy for brand protection and work with our external counsel on our trademark portfolio
  • Support and train business development, production, creative, and marketing teams, to provide them with the legal tools necessary to create, license, and market the products and services of the relevant teams
  • Ensure overall agreement with Uplift Games’ business needs, policies, and risk tolerance
  • Anticipate and support the continuous improvement of Uplift Games’ legal processes
  • Keep up to date on the video game industry including general legal issues surrounding this and other disruptive industries

  • MA or BSc in Business Administration will be considered an advantage;
